I built my first one consciously knowing there was a chance I could fail, it was a lot harder back then tho. My advice to anyone considering it is: Buy the right compatible parts, if you fail so hard you can't get it working with macOS (very unlikely) then just use Windows with the computer you built. Kaldosh built a Hackintosh without any prior knowledge or experience and he only needed to ask me a few questions to get it working, he didn't buy a GPU for his system. A cheaper RX 570 is what makes sense for an audio computer, maybe even lower. You dont even need to get GPU if you get a decent CPU with integrated graphics.Ī Vega 64 is the 2nd best consumer AMD GPU and is completely overkill for an Audio Workstation, 400$ is quite an investment, I only have it for my amateur video endeavors and maybe to play games once in a while.

The typical mac user has no idea what any of those are.

You do have to understand basic stuff like what is a BIOS, how to edit it, how to test your cooling components, what is overheating/thermal throttling, how to handle partitions, etc. If you think you can handle those instructions then it should be a breeze. installing macOS and configuring is where most people have trouble with. the only reason I upgraded is that I mess with video as a hobby and just generally like the most performance possible.Īssembling the computer is very easy, you just stick the components in the right holes basically.

PC building saves you money, there's a big market of used parts too. how worried should i be using it under this condition and is there anything I cant' do? It's already messed up and i need a new one anyway.i know D-One is knowledgeable with macs.Ĭlick to expand. That build on the video is pretty much my old Hackintosh, sold it for 500$, so yeah. I'm not sure what kind of limitations i should be experiencing besides a long time to open projects with this cooked logic board. I opened up maschine and it took FOREVER to open, but once it was opened, it worked fine. It also said something to the effect of MIDI not able to be used. I loaded up logic and it took forever to open up and had a message saying "could not installize CORE midi" i believe or something to that effect. I am using an external keyboard which works just fine though. the keyboard on my macbook works on and off (lets just say off for how inconsistent it is) and the trackpad doesn't work at all. looks like last time i overcooked it and now the logic board is messed up and i have to get a new one. i usually have to crack it open every now and then and take a heat gun to the gpu to reflow the heat. So these macbooks are known for their gpu issues. I found these instructions INVALUABLE in replacing my old logic board.I know this is a mac issue, but i know some of you may have been through this and am concerned about the consequences and limitations using maschine and logic or any other music software. Indeed that was exactly the case, and logic board replacement did fix the issue. I ordered another new battery, and after draining a second battery without being able to charge, I figured that spark was the sign that I fried something in the logic board. Instead, the computer ran off the 30% charge that new batteries are shipped with. Further, the wall charger would not recharge the new battery. New battery installed, but the OS didn't recognize the new battery - black "X" over the battery indicator. DON'T DO THAT! I saw the tiniest of sparks around pins 4-5-6 on the 9 pin battery connector.

However, when removing the damaged, swollen battery, I used the end of a flat head screw driver to pry up the battery connection. I've replaced batteries before, so I knew that it was definitely a swollen battery.
